Seattle offers shopping for everyone. Whatever your interests
may be I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Seattle
is lined with collectors shops, specialty shops, malls, plazas,
boutiques, high-end shops, low-end shops and much more. So, if you're
in the mood do get out and pick up a gift or something for yourself
you won't find it a difficult.
Outlet Malls
FACTORY STORES AT NORTH BEND (I-90 at Exit 31, North Bend, PHONE:
425/888-4505), about one hour east of Seattle, offers discounts
at over 30 brand-name stores including The Gap, Nike, and Osh Kosh
B'Gosh.
Shopping Centers & Malls
BROADWAY MARKET (401 Broadway Ave. E, Capitol Hill, PHONE: 206/322-1610)
is a popular neighborhood center with shops, restaurants, and cinemas.
CITY CENTRE (1420 5th Ave., Downtown, PHONE: 206/624-8800) houses
20 retailers in an environment adorned with spectacular art glass
displays. Find the latest word in minimalist fashion at Barneys
New York and Joan & David. Discover why architects and design
professionals love the wares at Design Concern, and romp through
two floors of glorious toys at FAO Schwarz.
PACIFIC PLACE (600 Pine St., Downtown, PHONE: 206/405-2655) is
an elegant atrium setting for a host of upscale retailers. It's
also the exclusive Pacific Northwest home of such jewelers as Cartier
and Tiffany & Co., and fashion mavens Max Mara and Club Monaco.
Add to your domestic comforts at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware,
and Williams-Sonoma Grande Cuisine. Or ponder the meaning of the
"J" as you shop for casual clothing at J. Crew, J. Jill,
and J. Peterman. A fourth-floor skybridge provides a waterproof
corridor to Nordstrom.
WESTLAKE CENTER (1601 5th Ave., Downtown, PHONE: 206/467-1600)
bustles with shoppers. Along with over 80 stores and restaurants,
you'll find The Galleries of Neiman Marcus, a boutique version of
the ultra-high-end retailer. Fill a basket with specialty foods
and crafts at Made In Washington, and outfit yourself in baseball
nostalgia at Ebbets Field Flannels. Westlake Center's top floor
features a multiethnic food court and the Monorail's Downtown terminus.
UNIVERSITY VILLAGE (N.E. 45th St. and 25th Ave. NE, University
District, PHONE: 206/523-0622), northeast of the University of Washington
campus, is an utterly pleasant outdoor shopping plaza with trees,
fountains, and all the other trappings of the good life. Among the
86 upscale shops and restaurants, you'll find branches of Pottery
Barn, Williams-Sonoma, and Banana Republic. You can also purchase
deluxe cosmetics at Sephora and support independent filmmaking by
shopping at Sundance.
Towers of glass to the east of Lake Washington mark downtown Bellevue
and its most popular shopping destination, BELLEVUE SQUARE (N.E.
8th St. and Bellevue Way, Bellevue, PHONE: 425/454-8096). Anchored
by Nordstrom and The Bon Marché, this upscale shopping center
8 miles east of Seattle is home to more than 200 shops, and includes
children's play areas, the Bellevue Art Museum, and covered parking.
From Seattle, take Highway 520 east to I-405 south, exit onto Northeast
Eighth Street, and continue west for four blocks.
NORTHGATE MALL (I-5 and Northgate Way, PHONE: 206/362-4777), 10
miles north of Downtown, houses 118 stores, including Nordstrom,
The Bon Marché, Lamonts, and JCPenney.
SOUTHCENTER MALL (I-5 and I-405, Tukwila, PHONE: 206/246-7400)
contains Nordstrom, the Bon Marché, JCPenney, Sears, and
150 other shops.
